This I don't know. But, presumably you are selecting the carrier with which you already have wireless service...not sure you can buy a phone and select a carrier for which you do not already have service because Apple is providing an activated sim card I think...and, they are charging your the carriers activation fee(s).

Not sure I understand why you would want to switch carriers after just paying a fee.

Maybe someone else can answer this question.

But, if you own your phone and it is unlocked, I think you can pretty much switch SIM's/carriers whenever you wish. Don't take my word for it though.

Valid question. The main issue is that my husband’s phone service is with Cricket. His family gets such a great deal that they pay the phone bill for the adult kids still as an annual Christmas gift. I would like to use the card to get him a new phone with the monthly installments. I have Verizon, so I’m with one of the four carriers listed. He, unfortunately, is not. So it’s looking like our only solution will be to pay in full up front, If installments Can only be used with one of the four carriers. I was thinking that purchasing with a carrier but not using the sim might allow me to still purchase the phone but use installments.

? I have a Sim and a carrier so there would be no reason for me to pay extra for everything because I have a broken phone in my hand, with a fully transferable SIM card. I just need to buy a phone and use the Apple card promised installment plan.. AT CHECKOUT, I’m not able to pay with installments, because I’m not paying extra for things I don’t need —I’m only buying a phone which is what the promotion is stating (use your Apple card to pay for your new iPhone with installments).

It really seems like a bug to me — which I would understand on a new product launch, but Apple blames Goldman Sachs and Goldman Sachs blames Apple and then they advertise their transparency.

Interesting. Apple had me use a brand new (sealed boxed iphone) to apply for the Apple Card — the experts(?)-3rd level of support—stated you could only apply for the card from the iPhone (and mine was broken, so they put my sim in a new phone). One I applied for the card, I was able to copy the number down and use the card on a computer in the store and buy the *new* phone (another phone—(Coming from a sealed box as they had to open because they couldn’t give me the first phone they set up to get the card) as they stated you can only apply for the card from a phone, NOT a computer, and they can’t sell a used phone even if it’s only been used for three minutes!

Are you talking once you have the card you can use it or that you can apply via the wallet app on another device? After the 3 support staff came the manager and she was not aware, either. All those hours of my time and the thing I got was a credit hit—I could’ve gotten the exact same (or better) rebate with any of my other cards—in the checkout did not allow installments. If there’s a deal with a Sim, they should say activate with the carrier on a service plan— It was wrong to says Buy a phone with the Apple Card and at check out you could choose installments.... as in full transparency — that is not what they are offering.

Well, Apple iPhone support tried to help me purchase on installments. They instructed me to select one-time payment (because Apple Card Monthly Installments wasn't a listed option) then enter my Apple Cared credit card number for payment. They said it would automatically do the installments because I used the Apple Card. NOT TRUE. I was billed the full one time amount.

Several folks, including someone at an Apple Store said that installments are only available when a carrier is selected. That appears to be the case because I have only seen the Apple Card installment option after having selected a carrier.

But, maybe by now the Apple Store has some other options available.
