My iPhone and iPad keep trying to go to lijit.com which appears to be associated with malware/virus.

viruses i got a page on my safari saying thag my device has been infected with 17 viruses and wants me to buy an app to resolve it. it said at the top “apple security” and i want to verify if it is actually apple before i go any further. i also have never visited an “adult website” which is mainly why i’m very confused.

It is none of those it is a browser hijack you picked up from some web site. Remove Safari from your recently used list, erase the Safari history, restart your iPhone.
