AirPods pro suddenly sound lame

I had been quite happy with my new AirPods pros after using the original AirPods for a couple years. However, this week when I use my Pros, the sound is horribly thin -- virtually no low end, generally low volume. When I pause the music and put on my original AirPods, the sound is great. So it's definitely not the music file or the connection, as I'm going back and forth on the same device between the old and new AirPods. And no, it isn't the noise-cancelling option -- that seems to toggle back and forth as usual, but doesn't make a big difference in sound quality (and shouldn't).

Is there some way to re-set or re-boot the Pros to get them sounding like they should?
