Apple Watch with iPhone SE Siri not playing nice!

This is just a community service announcement. Ever since updating my 44mm Apple Watch Series 4 to 6.xx Siri on the watch has basically been broken.

I found some third party forums that deal with the exact issue, but I could not find one on the Apple Discussion Community so I decided to put a post up here so others like myself can find info and know that they are not alone.

The problem appears to specifically be only for users of the iPhone SE.

The symptoms are some Siri requests takes very long to be processed, with multiple "I am working on it" comments from Siri. Often times the request fails. When the request does succeed after this delay Siri will begin answering, and then interrupt herself with "Uh oh, Lost the connection..." and then will continue to correctly fulfill the request.

Sometimes Siri will work flawlessly and lightning quick, and users have been unable to find a pattern to the success/failure. I and others have forced the watch to use WiFi vs the bluetooth connection to the iPhone and Siri works great in that test environment.

Currently on iOS 13.3 on iPhone SE with Apple watch Series 4 on 6.1.1

I've gone through countless re-pairing, restored my iPhone SE as a new iPhone, indoors, outdoors, nothing makes it work reliably. My series 4 watch worked perfectly on its original OS5 but as soon as I updated to OS6 the problem started.

My watch connects by bluetooth to other devices such as an external speaker, why the **** doesn't it work properly with an iPhone SE?

Had the watch around 7 months, nearly 5 months of that it hasn't worked as intended.

Currently on Watch OS 6.1.1 iOS 13.3

Well with 6.2 something got "fixed"; Siri no longer says, "Oh oh, lost the connection.." but now says,, "Sorry, once again." or "Sorry, one more time."

Connectivity is still useless between SE and Apple Watch.

Indeed, I now also get many “false positives“ from Siri on my Apple Watch. More often than before.

Every now and than, right in the middle of a conversation with somebody, it prompts an answer to bogus requests.

Like Apple increased the sensitivity of the device..

Only God nows what is going on..

I also have the same problem.

siri, phone, map and camera app.

Please do a test to launch the applewatch camera app.

It's a low probability, but it fails to boot.

Support is very interested in this bug.

If you encounter this issue, please report it to Support.

Today I got an old iPhone 8 from a friend.

After restoring my latest iPhone SE backup on it I can confirm it now works like a charm paired with Watch S4.

No more “oh oh I lost connection!“ messages from Siri when issuing a command.

A real shame this couldn’t work correctly on the old SE.

I like the form factor of the smaller models but I guess that’s the way it is for now.

I just updated my Apple Watch S4 with the more recent S5 whilst holding onto my trusty iPhone SE and, all of a sudden, “all my troubles seem so far away“..

Please note that I have activated the new Watch by restoring from the S4 back-up, hence all setups and preferences are identical.

It seems like only the duo iPhone SE and Watch S4 Is affected by this well known bug.

Can anybody confirm my own experience?

UPDATE: sorry, I have been over-optimistic. Siri has performed fine the first few times and now is back to the usual “oh oh. Sorry I lost connection“. Back to square one I guess.

My problem was between iPhone SE and the Series 5 from the get go. I gave in and got the new iPhone SE 2020 and what true joy to have the watch functioning as it should! Gone are the "Oh ohs..", "Sorry, try again" and other annoying messages.

*dons tinfoil hat* perhaps this problem was created so as to have users upgrade?

Update to 6.2.8 on watch (series 4) and iPhone SE 13.6 seems to have

corrected it for me. Only been a couple of days, so tentative at this

point, but the best and most dramatic improvement since this started.

Oh, thanks for that link. I did not find that because the title deals with phone calls, and I do not make calls on my watch so I had not made the connection. Thank you.

Thanks for that, please will you inform Apple Support about your problem, the more people report it the more likely Apple are to fix the problem.

I have an iPhone 7 with the latest update and an apple watch series 2 with the 6.1.2 update, and Siri is not working. I’ve restarted, re-paired, etc, to no avail!

Hello there, I have updated o the latest beta release, ios 13.4 beta1 that is, to no avail.

The problem persists.
