Watch storage

My Watch won’t update because there isn’t enough storage space available. I’ve checked my usage, and the apps total about 1.5GB of storage but my watch says I’m using 4.2GB of storage. I don’t have any music or podcasts or audiobooks on my watch. I have photos set to 25. I deleted all my messages on my watch.

Question 1: what is using the extra 2.7GB on my watch, since it’s not my apps or my media, and how do I access the full amount of storage space that I paid for?

Question 2: how do I free up more space when I have no music, no podcasts, no audiobooks, 25 photos (the minimum allowed), and only 1 “personal” app that is using only 7.6MB? My watch won’t update due to not enough space.

Unpair your Apple Watch via the Watch app on your iPhone.

Then Re-pair your Apple Watch, choosing either to Restore from Backup or setting up as a new watch, this will clear out a lot of junk and give you enough space to do the update.
