iTunes subscription

I have paid £9.99 monthly subscription but I’m still being charged for songs

why?

You can still purchase songs from the iTunes Store even if you are subscribed to Apple Music. The main difference is that you only retain the right to listen to Apple Music as long as you have an active subscription but the rights to purchased music do not expire. The following has information on purchasing music through the iTunes Store and also on downloading Apple Music without additional charges. Add and download music from Apple Music or the iTunes Store - Apple Support
