You don't have to wipe your hard drive to partition. You can add a partition:

Be sure to create a good backup first.

Your welcome, what are you attempting to do? It sounds like you want Catalina & El Capitan installed on your HD. If that assumption is correct you may be able to do this assuming your iMac had El Capitan installed on it at some point AND is a 2012 or later iMac.
Do you mean a partition??
If your hard drive is formatted for Mac then it already has a volume, "Macintosh HD". If you want to create another volume then you need to Partition it.
Thanks; that's what I thought but hoped someone might have figured out a way to not ave to wipe the HD.
