My iPhone X, latest OS, cannot hear me say “Hey Siri”. Tried everything I found on the net, Apple Support call struck out, did a restore. Before I see Genius Bar, any new ideas? The only clue might be I turned various things off to conserve battery while backpacking, but I turned most/all? back on, that was months ago, and all operations except Siri are fine.

Genius Bar determined front microphone wasn’t working. Apparently it’s the only one of three microphones that listens to the “Hey Siri” prompt. That explains why Siri worked only when pushing side button. The front microphone is part of the display; fortunately AppleCare+/warranty covered the repair.
You may have turned it off. Go to Settings>Siri and Search> and make sure hey Siri is turned on.

Here’s a new clue: I deleted Siri & Dictation history and now the Listen to “Hey Siri” toggle stays on and it doesn’t ask for retraining, but it still can’t hear me.
Way past that. However, with all this resetting when I turn on “Listen for “Hey Siri”” it wants to learn my voice again. It can’t hear me, so we’re stuck. Siri works if I push the button.
It can’t hear you? Is this a microphone issue? But it works when you push the button, and can hear you? I can’t think of any reason this is happening. Take it to genius and see what they say.
