Cannot Import Photo from Nikon to my IPad Pro

I can’t transfer photos from from my Nikon D7000 DSLR to my IPad Pro (10.5inch) using apple adaptor for USB to Loghtening Cable. I always seem to be getting a message that states “No photos to import” even though there are plenty of photos to import. Can anyone please help?

iPad Pro, iOS 13

Just to add, I have been able to connect the same camera to the same same IPad using the same apple adapter/connector (pls see photo) before and it worked fine but now it tries to import the photos but then comes back with the message “no photos to import”.

Hope someone can help me as I am about to embark on a wildlife photography safari in India and desperately need for this to work.

Many thanks in advance.

You may find it both easier and more reliable to simply read the photos directly from your SD-Card to your iPad. To do so, you will need an Apple Lightning to SD Card Reader (recommended - https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MJYT2AM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader) - or, alternatively, a third party Card Reader to attach to your existing Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter.

Using the SD Card Reader removes a lot of complexity - and the need to keep your camera powered for [potentially] long periods when transferring photos - which can take a long time!

When using the Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter, it is often necessary to connect this to external power via its Lightning connector. Whilst this is unlikely to be a specific problem with your camera (which has its own power source), this is often an overlooked factor when connecting external USB devices to the iPad.

As you cannot see the camera storage in Files, you may simply have an issue whereby the external storage devices are not recognised by the iPad. This has been seen and reported here on several occasions (I too have experienced this when initially updating an iPad Pro 10.5 to iPadOS) and is often resolved with one or more forced-restarts of the iPad - and once cleared, the Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter has worked flawlessly with the native Files App.

I hope this proves to be helpful in resolving your difficulties.

Dear LotusPilot,

Thank you very much for your helpful advise.

Will certainly try this. I am trying to source one of these and I tried the Authorised Apple Reseller in one of the malls in New Delhi, India last night but they were sadly out of stock. I will try a few more places today.

I actually followed your instruction and tried this with the power supply attached to the lightning connector next to the USB port of the connector. But it still didn’t work.

Have also tried the hard reboot but the files app does not recognise the camera and nor does it display any external storage on the IPad.

Hopefully the SD Card solution will work. will update on this thread once I have had a chance to try it. Thanks.
