Connecting Airport to iTunes through my home network

I have an old Airport Express updated with latest firmware 7.8. My iTunes is on a desktop plugged into my home router via ethernet. My Airport Express is connected wirelessly to my home network via a separate wireless bridge. The Airport outputs my iTunes music to my speakers.

Recently I'm having a problem. The Airport Utility can't scan to find my Airport Express. Instead I click "configure other" and access it by inputting the IP address and Airport Express pw. That allows me to talk to the Express and make changes.

But even though it's "green" and the Utility can see it, my iTunes application doesn't display it so I can't change my speakers to play my music.

As I said this is a recent issue.

We have seen numerous issues with using 7.8 or 7.8.1 firmware on the AirPort Express base stations when it comes to using AirPlay. I suggest that you try downgrading back to 7.6.9 or 7.6.8 to see if this solves the issue you are having.

Thanks. I may try that. Meantime I hit the "update" button on the "config other" settings summary in the utility. It warned me there'd been no change to the config so the action wasn't necessary, but when I hit update anyway, as it refreshed the Airport Express, the Utility's scanner "found" my Express as did iTunes.

I forgot to ask. Is your Express a 1st (A1264) or 2nd (A1392) generation 802.11n model? The 7.8.x firmware upgrade was mainly for providing AirPlay 2 support to the 2nd gen model. If my information is correct, only the 2nd gen was provided an upgrade to 7.8, but both models were offered a 7.8.1 upgrade. Regardless, AirPlay 2 is not supported with the 1st gen.

Yes I have a 1st generation updated recently with 7.8.1 firmware. The main issue is that the Airport Utility and iTunes can't find via scanning my Airport even when it is showing "green" unless I choose "configure other" and input the IP address and password. At that point it restarts and gets "found" again.

I'll try downgrading to 7.6.9 and see if that helps.

Yep... After downgrading all is fixed.

Thank you for the solution!
