This started happening to my Apple Watch 1 series sport when I upgraded phones to the i-phone XR.

I contacted Apple support and discovered that there is a recent iOS upgrade to 13.6 (issue was occuring with 13.5.1).

I'm happy to say that following an update on the phone and a un-pairing and re-pairing exercise the watch is working as expected (so far).

It has happened to me constantly since iOS 13 and watch 6.0. Mine does it in the middle of running, doing nothing, or whatever. The battery now constantly gets to dead at the end of every day (this wasn’t a thing at all unless i was running 10+ miles) and nothing has changed other than the **** phone and watch updates. It’s frustrating beyond belief. I’ve unpaired and repaired, rebooted the watch, reboot phone constantly. These last update have both SUCKED for the watch and phone. I’m OVER IT!!!!!!

Mine has started doing this a few weeks ago, but is getting more frequent. The first time, it happened on all my Apple Watches and resulted in me resetting each of them. It is frustrating and made me think the iOS on my phone is corrupted.

It looks like I may have to reset my series 4 yet again

Also, it starts doing this when I am wearing it. So frustrating

I posted to someone else’s response in relation to this problem down below on this thread. I also have a series 1 Apple Watch (OS 4.3.2) and synced to an iPhone 7 IOS 13.3. It had been working pretty solidly until a few weeks ago when it randomly started syncing and was taking forever! So I actually unpaired it and re-paired as a new watch. But just the other evening it started syncing again.. went thru two rounds of sync-circles that took about 40 minutes.. so unpairing and re-pairing doesn’t work. I also notice that those with later watch models are having this problem way more frequently than I am (for me twice in the span of about 6 weeks), thinking the series 1 with the older OS is not as affected. I too was going to ditch my series 1 for a newer model.. now I think I’ll keep what I’ve got.

I have Apple Watch Series 4 (Nike +, if that makes any difference) and an iPhone 7. This has been happening with me randomly for about a month. I reset the watch and it was ok for a couple of weeks. Now it has all started again. Today it has gone into the hellish black screen 3 times - the last time took 2 hours to eventually get around the circle.

I contacted Apple support by phone, and was told that they were unaware of this problem, and couldn't come up with any possible fix - other than telling me to take it to authorized support (which are all closed because of Covid-19 quarantine).

I'm praying for a bug fix update to either IOS or WatchOS, but let' see...

Hi all - I had to look back in the thread to see when I last did an update that seemed to correct this issue. I'm still using the iphone 7 and series 1 watch, and it was mid February that the devices calmed down.

After a blissfull few months (at least in terms of my watch working properly!), just last week I noticed the watch starting updates on its own, once per day and taking less time than before (not sure on time, but less than an hour).

These sporadic updates don't seem to drain the battery like before (it used to be that the multiple updates would take it immediately down to 20%) so while this is a nuisance, its not as bad as it was earlier this year. I'll see about updates or doing another reset of the watch.

Sorry the issue is still plaging so many of you!

Unfortunately if you look back at the last 7 pages of this sync problem, the history of this problem dates way back before covid. It was looking like it was hitting everyone with an iPhone 7 and any version watch, but I’m saddened to see that a few iPhone 10s and 11s are chiming in about this problem now. I have the original watch with the iPhone 7. My watch is no longer supported. Been holding off on upgrading since those with much later version watches are suffering syncs multiple times a week/day.

Yup, another one here. Just got an Apple Watch series 5, paired to an iPhone 7 running the latest iOS 13.5.1. First watch started randomly syncing the second day I had it, same problems everyone else describes, starting over, randomly doing it during all activities. Swapped out for a new watch and things went well for about a week, then it started again. Apple needs to address this issue which is clearly a software issue and is targeting customers with specific hardware. My iPhone 7 works fine in all other contexts, just had the battery replaced by Apple right before the 'rona. Please address ASAP!

I have the same problem as well with my Watch 4. I called into Apple Support and was told that this was a hardware problem, and since my device was out of warranty my only choice was to get a new watch. SO - I ordered a Watch 5. In the 2 weeks it took to arrive, my Watch 4 started to behave and stopped the unexpected Syncing behavior. When the new watch arrived, I returned it. Three weeks later, my Watch 4 started syncing every few hours... I'm glad that I didn't keep the 5 as this isn't a hardware problem.
