This started happening to my Apple Watch 1 series sport when I upgraded phones to the i-phone XR.

I contacted Apple support and discovered that there is a recent iOS upgrade to 13.6 (issue was occuring with 13.5.1).

I'm happy to say that following an update on the phone and a un-pairing and re-pairing exercise the watch is working as expected (so far).

My last IOS update on my iPhone 7 was about January 30 to 13.3.1. My series 1 watch hasn’t synced since January 28 but is now syncing! It has been going on for the past 40 minutes. The sync dial seems to progress a bit but then doesn’t complete the dial and restarts the sync again.

This morning my iPhone needed me to supply my Apple ID password because it said certain updated apps needed me to supply the password again, which I did (it does this periodically on my settings app). I put my watch on and in a few minutes I noticed it syncing.

Am still waiting for this sync to finish. I also noticed my photo app keeps crashing, since I wanted to take a photo of the dial.. all this is so annoying but I am grateful this sync operation is not hitting me daily.

Trying to be detailed as I’m hoping it gives some clue as to what the heck is going on!

Good luck DivalutionDeb & Jettsica! Keep posting your findings. Thanks!

Well y'all, to be honest, I haven't had real issues in several weeks. I did wake up Saturday to the black screen of death and had to do a reset and of course the watch had to re-sync. But I stay on top of updates and every time one is available I've downloaded it in hopes of issues resolving and mine have. I only did the un-pairing and repairing one time during this adventure. The biggest BIGGEST problem I have now is I get low power warnings every day at the end of the day on the watch. Before the version 6 update to the watch, I never got this warning, ever. So I don't know if this coincides with Apple trying to get everyone to upgrade to the newest watches, but as per usual, their timing is flawless is giving our barely old technology the boot! DAMMIT APPLE! You have enough of our money!!

No, I believe when we say syncing, we are referring to random times during the day we look at our watch and there is the apple logo in the middle of the watch with tick marks all in a circle around the apply as the watch is trying to sync back to the phone. There is no apparent reason for it, it just does it randomly, and takes forever and there's nothing we can do about it or know why it's happening. All this happened once the phone upgraded to ios 13 and the watch upgraded to 6...one of these factors is the cause FOR SURE!

Ok.. so just realized from your response, that even though current Watch OS is 6, my Series 1 watch is on 4.3.2. When I go into watch setup to check for updates, it says that software is up to date with no option to upgrade to 6. I even thought that they stopped upgrades for series 1 at some point like they do with the old phones. My random syncs are once in a few weeks, whereas everyone else is daily. You’re correct in suspecting the combo of the iPhone iOS 13 and watch OS 6.

I don’t want to upgrade to newer devices since many on this thread have newer ones and they have daily problems with their random syncs, so that won’t take this problem away.

BTW, my sync yesterday was into its second hour (With the dial starting and restarting without completing many times over) when I decided to reboot my phone since my photo app kept crashing. After the reboot, the watch sync finished the sync in 20 minutes. :/

I’m wondering if it is the apps on the watch. I also changed my Apple ID password recently. This alone didn’t fix anything. Messenger is the only third party app I have, which I am removing just to see. But this is an interesting point..

I’m also not going to sync my photo (favorites album) from my phone since I had to reboot my phone during syncing since photo app wasn’t working and seemed to speed up the sync after reboot.

I have apple watch 2 and iPhone 7 and have been experiencing the same problem for the last 6 weeks or so. I removed all "optional" apps on my watch, but it didn't seem to help. I feel like it will be good for about a week or so then will do it daily, sometimes twice a day. I has now been syncing for over an hour. I can't seem to find anything that triggers it. I stopped by the apple store the other day, but they had never heard of this, or at least the person I talked to. They said I could have them run a diagnostic on it to see if it was the watch or the phone, but the wait was over an hour and I didn't have the time. I was initially thinking I needed a newer model, but it's definitely sounding like that is not the case. I'm wondering if everyone has an iPhone 7 ?!? I will try to find the time to go back to the store and see if I can have them check it out. All I know is that it is driving me crazy!!!! I have to sign, time and date things multiple times a day, which is tricky when it is constantly syncing.

That's good to know. My iPhone 7 is running 13.3.1 as well. My watch hasn't been updating that often as of now, it seems to be happening less than it used to around December where it was every few days. As of now it happens maybe only once a month, but it happened again for today for roughly 30 minutes and consisted of multiple syncing cycles that kept restarting. I just deleted messenger so hopefully that helps.

Ugh! Going to start a chat support session with Apple this weekend about it. I think at this point the more people complain to them, the more attention it’ll get, being that someone already tried bringing their watch into the Apple store and they claim they’ve never heard of this problem. We’re in the minority. Getting a new phone is not in my priority list.

I am 99.9999999999999999% positive this issue has nothing to do with any 3rd party apps. I was having the syncing issue non stop for weeks. Thankfully over the last month, there hasn't been an issue that I have noticed. I have all the current updates on the phone (7 plus) and the watch (series 2) I don't know if time has just stopped it from happening, but I didn't do anything. I don't know why it happened and I don't know why it stopped... But I hope the same for you all.
