Issue with unexpected skipping to the next track is now bigger than before!

Apple Music unexpectedly skipping to the next song or track on occasion while my iPhone is connected via USB to my car's infotainment system and running CarPlay has gotten worst since upgrading my iPhone 11 Pro Max to iOS13.3. It has also spread to 3rd party apps. The skipping is totally random, sometimes occurring a few seconds into a song, halfway through a song, or near the end of a song. The skipping is also not limited to simply jumping to the next song but sometimes as many a 3-4 skips in succession.

In Apple Music the issue spans across both playlist I've created, playlist Apple has curated, as well as "Radio" offered by Apple Music. A few of my 3rd party apps (Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music) streamed through CarPlay are also exhibiting the same unexpected skipping behavior. I've rebooted my iPhone a few times as well as resetting network settings and a hard reset for good measure - none of which has resolved the issue.

A NEW issue appeared in the past few days….check this out! If I'm listening to streaming music (Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Amazon Music….others) via CarPlay from my iPhone 11 Pro Max (connected via USB cable) and decide to switch to my Honda's infotainment system and listen to AM radio, 4-7sec. later the infotainment system will switch back to my iPhone via bluetooth (not CarPlay) and start streaming music from whatever app I was using. Whats up with that? For the record, the 2018 Honda Accord Touring only allow USB connections when running CarPlay.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Hello Randy,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that your music is skipping songs at random and is connecting to your car stereo when not wanted; I'd like to help.

Are you using an Apple or Apple certified USB to Lighting cable when connecting to your car stereo? The following support article provides some additional information about this:

Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories - Apple Support

I'd also suggest using any steps you've not yet taken from the "Get Help" section of this resource: How to use CarPlay with your iPhone

With regard to your you iPhone connecting to your car stereo via Bluetooth, you can forget this connection since you connect via USB:

Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Specifically, check out the section labeled "Unpair a Bluetooth accessory"

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

Hello and thanks for responding,

Yes, I'm using an Apple certified USB to lighting cable. In this case it's the lighting cable that shipped with my previous iPhone, the Xs Max. The lighting cable that shipped with my iPhone 11 Pro Max is USB-C on one end and my Honda's USB ports are all USB-3 only.

Also note that:

  1. My Honda has more than one USB port but the issue is present regardless of which port I use.
  2. The issue only appears when my iPhone is connected to my Honda's infotainment system via CarPlay and a USB cable.
  3. I'm also running the Waze Traffic app while listening to Apple music but in a recent test I launched Apple Maps and Google Maps along side Apple music in CarPlay but the issue remained.
  4. I used a magnifying glass to look inside the lighting port on the bottom of my iPhon - no lint or debris was found.

Thanks for your help!
