How does one change safari tab background color from black to white

How does one change safari tab background color from black to white?

btw, the preferred white background was changed recently by the geniuses at Apple during one of the five or six "updates" installed this week. Or perhaps inadvertently by the operator

What specific version of macOS are you using? One can toggle Safari tabs from visible to invisible with AppleScript, but there is no AppleScript dictionary support to change actual tab colors (e.g. black to white).

After High Sierra, one has light mode, or dark mode and these will control the tab color between light, and dark respectively.

Thanks for your comment about AppleScript but it is irrelevant and totally unresponsive to the issue at hand.

The Safari tabs background color on my iMac was white for 10 months and changed to black for three days without my asking for it and for no other apparent reason. Now the background color has changed from black back to white without my doing anything. And this unexpected and unbidden phenomenon is completely different from the dark and light mode settings.

In reply to your question, the "specific" version of macOS is Catalina, version 10.15.2

Appreciate your being a Level 9 wizard and thanks for your info.
