Unable to install MacOS

Trying to update to MacOS 10.15.2 I get this error.

MacOS could not be installed on your computer.

an error occurred while generating the kernel cache.

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

This I have done a few times, tried to do a fresh OS install from the internet but still the same error.

If you're still having the problem and the solution below didn't work for you (which it didn't for me), shut down your computer and boot into safe mode (not recovery) by holding the shift key while turning on. This should work to get you logged in so you can at least back up. Safe mode erases the kernel cache (which was what caused my issues). Afterwards, I was able to install the updates as normal, as well.

Hope it helps!

Thank you for your reply blahblahblah 1937 , I wished perhaps I would have had your information to try back then.

I spoke to various Apple support people, in the end I had to re install every OS from my original OS. I think Mountain Lion until Catalina, I was unable to bypass any OS. After that I used my time machine to put back my data. It took hours. Apple provided links so that I could download the Operating Systems.

Kind regards
