What is the folder Automatically Add to Music Folder

I have Catalina now installed on my MacBook. There is a new folder in my Music folder named Automatically Add to Music Folder. I am not using Apple Music, but I am using the music app. All of my new purchases are in this folder listed by artist and then album. My music folder has most of the same artist, but not the new albums. The albums are listed in the music app and I am able to play them. What is this folder supposed to be about or do?

The Automatically Add to Music folder is the new version of Automatically Add to iTunes. When you drag new audio files into it, they will either get whisked away to your library or (if there is a problem) placed into a Not Added folder.

Henry,

There are no settings that control the behavior of "Automatically Add...." If the files are playable, you may just want to leave them alone. But if you want to experiment, drag one of them out of there (to the desktop) and see if the song still plays.

Thanks for the reply. The files are showing up in the music app and playable. The files are being stored in the Automatically Add to Music and not in the Music Library folder. That is my confusion. Do I move the files to the library folder, leave them where they are or is there a setting that I need to adjust?
