Magic Mouse 2 No Longer Works After iPadOS 13.3

Previously, the Magic Mouse 2 would be recognized and could be paired with iPad Pro. After the IPadOS update to 13.3, it no longer works.

I have confirmed this. I just bought my Magic Mouse 2 just for my iPad Pro. I have tried it on 6 different devices running 13.3 it Will not find it. My wife’s iPad Pro is on 13.0 and it finds the mouse no problem. Nothing like spending 80 on a Mouse you can’t use.

So clearly that a lot of people are asking for the same question: WHY? But don’t worry. I already solved the problem. I bought a Microsoft Surface Mobile Mouse for a lot less money than Apple’s and it works great also on my Mac. To the community this is my advise: Don’t waste your money on a mouse of the same brand which, in some versions work, and then do not.

Yes, Phil0124, we understand. However, what bob_n_boro is asking is why (not if!) Apple decided to discontinue supporting the magic mouse in the most recent update? Cvidalk has said the same thing, but since everyone wants to repeat themselves, I figured I would do so too. Some possible explanations: 1) they decided once again that they don't want the iPad to be a computer, but compromised and allowed non-apple mice, 2) there were some connectivity issues if the mouse was used interchangeably with an Apple computer and iPad.

So far the only solution proposed on the thread is to use a non-apple mouse. Can anyone else confirm that if they use a non-apple bluetooth mouse on 13.3 it works?

I purchased the Magic Mouse 2 initially to use with a MacBook Pro with which it works wonderfully. When iPadOS 13 arrived, I used the Magic Mouse 2 with the iPad. However, the scrolling feature didn't work. I purchased a Logitech MX Anywhere 2S mouse. This mouse works well with the iPad for a number of reasons. The scroll feature works wonderfully. As an aside, I also purchased at a later date a Logitech MX Keys keyboard to use with the iPad and the MacBook Pro. I'll have to say that the keyboard is the best keyboard I've ever used. Both devices can be used with up to three devices. I prefer to use the Magic Mouse 2 with the MacBook Pro and the Logitech MX Anywhere 2S with the iPad because of the arrangement of the computer and the iPad on my desk.

The Magic Mouse 2 never worked with both the MacBook Pro and the iPad. And yes, the fact that Apple stopped supporting the Magic Mouse 2 with iPadOS 13.3 was somewhat surprising. To reiterate, the Logitech MX Anywhere 2S works very well with the iPad. I hope Apple will refine the mouse capabilities in iPadOS. If anyone has any questions about the Logitech mouse or the keyboard, please let me know.

Thanks to Phil0124 for bringing it to our attention (at least initially) that Apple stopped supporting the Magic Mouse 2 in iPadOS 13.3 and to HarmonicConjugate for his clarification.

Same issue here - I bought a Magic Mouse 2 on last November; I tested it in a shop, it was working fine and I decided to buy it to be used with my Ipad Pro. The mouse is relatively expensive, but I wanted to have the whole “Ipad Pro” experience, with accessories from Apple. Then, after updating my Ipad Pro to 13.3, my mouse wasn’t recognized anymore... I tried all I could, Factory Reset, etc. nothing worked... That was very frustrating. Finally, I decided to go to a local Apple store - The sales assistant was very defending, not even trying to check it with me and just showed me that it’s written the Magic Mouse is not supported on my device... That’s a very disappointing experience... I hope that Apple will fix it soon !

Ok, I am not alone in this situation ...

"Your choice to sell your iPad is drastic"

On early January, the issue started with my Magic Mouse 2... I thought that perhaps it's only my Ipad Pro who has this issue...

Then, I read people on forums saying that they are experiencing the same issue.

On early January, I had this issue with the Magic Mouse 2, but my Logitech mouse was still working fine.

I was thinking - Ok fine, let's wait for the next software release, it will probably fix this issue.

I went to an Apple store on mid-January to see if a professional tech guy could help me figuring out the issue, but the guy was very defensive and just showed me on my OS "Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad is not supported"; he didn't even want to bother trying to help me and was quite unpleasant... which was my second surprise...

Then, I thought - ok, let's wait for the next release... again !

The new version 13.3.1 was finally released ! I was so excited to see if it would fix my issue with the Apple Magic Mouse 2.

After the upgrade, even my Logitech mouse wouldn't be recognized by my OS ! ! !

What a great upgrade, thanks Apple for working hard on fixing issues ! :-) :-) :-)

I totally understand that Apple wants to avoid getting confusions between the purpose of the Ipad Pro and other product lines (MacBook / MacBook Pros), but I couldn't believe that they made the choice to remove functionalities like mouse support for Ipad Pro users... I always believed that Apple would do the best to please their community.

The Ipad Pro is a beautiful piece of hardware, I really like it.

When I purchased it, my main purpose was to have a lightweighted 2nd computer - I wasn't expecting my Ipad Pro to replace totally my main computer, but with the mouse support and the Apple Smart keyboard, the experience was good.

Without mouse support, now, it's very uncomfortable when I use it as a computer for web surfing... I hate to scroll pages with my fingers... which is apparently what Apple wants users to do ... so it's sad, but I'll have to sell it ! :-(

They are supported on iPad OS, just not the ones with software version 13.3.1... the Magic Mouse works on other iPads....and did see where it clearly states in the Devices screen under Accessibility that MM 2 and MT are not supported,.

The question is why does it work with some iPads?

Why has Apple not answered this question?

If they have, did I miss it?

Thanks, FMP1968. A little humor is welcome these days.

Yes, iPadOS 13.4 made mouse support pretty “mainstream.” But, the Magic Mouse 2 is a bit limited in that there are very few gestures that work in comparison to a Mac and the operation otherwise is a bit limited. For example: I map the right mouse click to task swapping and this works well. But, one of the problems is that one can select text with a left mouse click, but there’s no way to then copy or cut text (without touching the screen) without going through many steps using the AssistiveTouch menu (and I’m not sure it can be done that way). If anyone has figured this out, please let me know.

As I mentioned somewhere above, I purchased a Logitech MX Anywhere 2S which works pretty well because of the number of “mouse buttons” that can be mapped to do certain things. OF COURSE, if one wants all the functionality that should be available with the Magic Mouse 2 to begin with, one can purchase another Apple product; the Apple Magic TrackPad 2. I initially purchased the Magic Mouse 2 for use with my Mac, so the fact that it didn’t work initially and with limited functionality now is a disappointment more than a source of anger.

Thanks to all the input from everyone. If anyone has any good solutions to the above, please let us all know.
