I have a Apple phone that used to be my grandsons until i gave him my newer phone. Now he doesn’t remember his 6 digit passcode. I do have his Apple ID if that would help me?

How to get a new phone passcode for an older iPhone I’m setting up for my granddaughter. It used to be my grandsons and he doesn’t remember the code.

If you backed up your device, you can restore your data and settings after restoring your device.

If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

OK - no.

You did NOT backup your iPhone that you gave away? (bad practice!)

You need to restore the kid's iPhone to factory condition (that is what the article above describes - "removing your passcode" is new language meant to avoid scaring folks, I guess)

This will make his (yours now) iPhone as if it had never been used - no data

THEN

With your hands on YOUR old iPhone that you gave away

Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Your grandson has lost all his data due to forgetting his passcode - so he is out of luck = unless HE made backup(s) to disk via iTunes or to iCloud, which he can then restore

i think Verizon backed up my info before giving me my new phone They backed up my grandsons as well before giving him his newer phone. The old phone the 6s needed a new battery at the time so they didn’t do much to that phone. We put a new battery in it recently and plan to give it to my granddaughter. If I can get past the passcode i can reset it to factory.

OK

Verizon did not "maintain" any backups for y'all

They did the transfer TO new iPhone described in latter article = Quick Start asks if you want to, and does so via Bluetooth (from phone to phone)

If your grandson backed up his iPhone, he can restore his data FROM that backup

I am curious as to HOW Verizon would be ABLE to make a backup of a phone not knowing the passcode - he would have to TELL them the passcode for them to proceed

You cannot GET the passcode - it is encrypted ON the iPhone, not known by Apple or anyone else - which is why factory reset is required

If you read BOTH articles carefully, you will learn all about the issues you face - doing stuff in the right order is all that is required to
