Mac Pro 5,1 power supply issues
My 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 (46 gb RAM, 500 gb SSD boot drive) has been having what I assume is a power supply problem. I press the power button and get only a clicking sound from the vicinity of the power supply. After a few seconds, there is a second clicking sound. Then when I press the power button a second time, I get juice and the Mac boots. (If I don't wait for that second click, nothing happens.)
I replaced the button battery about a month ago. Resetting the SMC doesn't make any difference to this problem. I'm concerned that maybe the PSU is getting ready to die. If it does, am I stuck buying a secondhand Apple Mac Pro PSU (with a limited life span), or is there a relatively easy means of modifying a regular PSU from Silverstone or another manufacturer?
