I recently purchased a new ipad, and with it comes the one year free apple tv subscription. I set it all up but when i went to watch a show it still asked me to pay for the show /ep i was on. How do i fix this?

Your free one year subscription is for Apple TV +
Apple TV + is Apple Original content. It’s a channel found within the Apple TV App. The shows included in your subscription will have the tv+ logo on them - those are free.

Movies that say rent or buy are from the iTunes Store and not free.
This is not like Netflix etc, where all is included in the one App. Nowhere does it state you have access to the entire iTunes catalogue. Those movies are owned and sold by the Film Producers or whoever owns the rights to them, which is not Apple.
And yes that email link was clicked on using the newly activated device.

I got 1 year free subscription with my new iPad, I took advantage but it looks like I’m still going to be charged to watch a film, is this right or am I missing something ?
No problem. I was confused too. Idk if it’s a complete scam since you do get to watch Apple’s content for free, but it’s pretty close to being a scam.

How about that I purchased new equipment entitling is to one year free membership which I’ve been unable to turn on? Is that misleading in your book?

Yes very disappointed with buying an Apple+TV one years free subscription - it doesn’t give you anything for free as you either have to pay or rent - I’m reporting this to ACCC

What a farce if I want to watch something that isn’t on my free view on Apple I have to pay fo it no use
I feel the same ! Why tell me I get it free for a year, when I have to pay for anything I want to watch! You don’t have to pay for a membership to iTunes , only pay if you want the song!!
I think I will cancel it it was the reason I bought an iPhone rather than a Samsung wish I had purchased a different phone
