iCloud/Safari/Catalina - Cannot access Notes from Browser - WebGL error

Screen shot says it all. Has happened repeatedly with multiple restarts and logging in/out of iCloud.

Thanks for the screenshot; it does tell a lot of the story.


Since Safari is part of macOS Catalina, let's see if there is a software conflict that is causing this error.


I suggest that you rule out any conflicts that may be in your user account by restarting in safe mode and testing, and creating a new administrative user and testing in that account.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac


If the issue happens in safe mode and/or a test user, I recommend reinstalling a fresh version of macOS Catalina:

How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery

Creating as 'virgin' test user account allowed icloud/notes to work correctly. So clearly something is amiss on my normal account. I've also had Photos crashing issues which I've been discussing on a separate thread, and the suggestion there too as to try a test account. From these two problems it would appear that the Restore operation for this new computer managed to corrupt something in settings/environment. Before resorting to something drastic, I'll start by cleaning out all cookies and extensions from Safari.


FWIW, the restore was from a 2013 Macbook Pro running latest Catalina. I chose to include Apps and Settings in the restore. This seems like a likely cause for the WebGL issue. However, my Photos problem must be from something else since I did not use Photos on the old Macbook.
