New iPod touch I messaging not working

my son just got a new iPod touch and I messaging and FaceTime keep saying to Sign In with Apple ID, and it won’t work. I have tried all of the help options online, plus resetting the whole thing and starting again

Access to iMessage and FaceTime For over a week now I’ve not been able to access iMessage and FaceTime on my iPad.I am asked to sign in with my Apple ID.When this is done the signing in goes on for days and gets nowhere.If I turn the iPad off and then back on,occasionally it will allow me to sign in again but without success.I’ve now changed my Apple ID but cannot at the moment sign in.
