MacBook Pro 13” with Touchbar dead

Hey, had my MacBook over a year, but bought it refurbished so it’s a 2017 model.

anyway I’ve not used it for a few days and last night I tried to turn it on but literally nothing happened, tried again today and got the same. Talked to support and managed to get it turned on with SMC, I then closed the lid as I didn’t need to use it and then the same things happened, I remember seeing the battery on 4% when it turned on which was weird as it had been plugged in all night. I tried the SMC (and have done it many times since) but now nothing’s happening.

the charger works as I tested on my iPad, it is almost like it isn’t charging as usually Shen it’s plugged in I can feel the current in the MacBooks metal body but nothing. I don’t understand how it just isn’t charging it? Clearly earlier it must have somehow charged it slightly enough for me to start it.

any hep before I take it to a shop would be great, I want to avoid any costs as I’ve done nothing to it for it to do this and of course it’s out of warranty.

I must have misinterpreted: "it is almost like it isn’t charging as usually"

So...

The only thing I can think of is a lockup issue. I've seen it happen a few times on different Macs. I've heard of it happening on computers from different manufacturers, so it wouldn't be unique to Apple. The first time it happened to me, it was after plugging in a damaged USB cable. The MagSafe light started blinking different colors until it went dead. None of the buttons would work. I went through all the recommended keystrokes for an SMC reset. The fan was off and nothing would power on or power down. I did hear a faint buzzing sound from the logic board.

It's kind of hard to explain, but a computer can get into a zombie state where the power management system can't seem to recover without the power supply being completely cut off. It has to be in a certain state in order to power on from being shut down and holding the power button down only works if the power management is in a good state. With a desktop computer, that's easy enough to do by completely disconnecting the power cord. With a notebook computer that may require pulling the battery connector or allowing the battery to completely die then connecting it to power again.

I can't say this is your issue, but it's something to consider as a possibility.

Troubleshoot the Power:

Compare the Price for Charger Vs. Service?:

Whatever the price for a power adapter, it might be just as much, if not more than the price to get it serviced. Being that it is out of warranty, you can bring it to either an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store, where it would be evaluated for service. Wherever you bring the MacBook Pro, be sure to bring the Power Adapters and its USB cord along with you during the evaluation.
