Mac book pro retina built in keyboard is not responding

Hi,

My mac book pro retina builtin keyboard is not responding. I shutdown the computer last night and restart today again. I could not type the password. Instead, a small window appeared and said my Bluetooth keyboard is not responsive. I have never used any other type of keyboard for the mac except the built in one. What should I do now?

Please help me. I am in the middle of thesis writing.

Best,

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

Hi Ayuee,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand your built-in keyboard is no longer responsive, and how important it is to get this solved so you can get back to writing your paper.

I would start basic, and suggest cleaning the keyboard on your MacBook Pro to eliminate this as a possible cause: How to clean the keyboard of your MacBook or MacBook Pro - Apple Support.

You should then try resetting the SMC, which can help with keyboard related issues: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support. If this fails to execute properly due to the keyboard issue, do you happen to have a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard you could try connecting to your MacBook temporarily?

Keep me posted. Regards.
