Why does Apple keep posting holds to my account after I have paid for my computer?

I placed my order on the 19th, the charge went through in my account on the 20th. After that, two more open holds appeared in my account with the same amount. I called Apple and my bank Schwab multiple times. Both asked me to wait. Apple said it's going to drop 5 business days later. Schwab confirmed that the two authorizations are going to drop on 24th.

Then on 24th, they both dropped! Yet on 25th, one fresh open hold appeared again, with the same amount! I contacted Apple again, and this time, the representative told me that there is not any open hold on their end! Schwab told me that this new hold is going to drop on 29th. I can wait to see until 29th, but what if Apple posted another one again?

I did have three other cancelled orders before this one, but I waited for them to clear off before I made this purchase that finally went through, which I paid for. The open holds appeared after that charge. What are these new open holds for?

Could Apple please solve the bug that it keeps posting to a customer's bank account after he has paid for his computer?

When Apple charges your account

When you place an order, Apple will contact your credit or debit card's issuing bank to confirm it is a valid account. Apple requests an authorization, which holds the funds for the full or partial purchase amount. As Apple prepares your items, authorized funds will be unavailable and may display as "pending" on your credit or debit card's online statement.

If you are shipping an item, your card will only be charged after the item has shipped. For pickup items, you will be billed before your item is ready for pick up. If your order contains multiple items, you may see multiple charges on your credit or debit card statement.

If you cancel your order before your items are billed, any authorizations placed on your credit card account can take up to 30 days to expire and any authorizations placed on your debit card account can take up to 10 days to expire. Contact your financial institution for their specific timeframes.

Hi Grant Bennet-Alder, thank you for the reply. Just want to add more information about my orders, since I did not explain them clearly in my original post.

My #1 order was placed on December 2, 2019, and cancelled immediately after placement. The pending hold went away very quickly, and for days after, I didn't see any pending transaction from apple.

My #2 order was placed on December 16, 2019, and also cancelled soon after replacement. I don't remember when this authorization went away.

My #3 was placed on December 16, 2019 after the #2 order was cancelled. I missed the delivery carrier the next day, and the money was refunded to me three days later on the 19th.

At this time, my bank account looks clean, no pending charges from Apple. That's when I decided to place my #4 order on December 19, 2019. I got the computer on the same day, and the transaction was posted on the 20th.

The two open holds I mentioned in the original post appeared on the 20th. That is what I'm confused about. Are you suggesting that the two open holds are related to the two initial canceled orders, even though the holds appeared after the #3 order was refunded and the #4 order went through in my bank account? Why is it that a new hold appeared on 25th after the unknown two holds dropped on 24th?

I understand that this is a very confusing situation. I can wait for the hold to drop, but please let me know if there are any insights on what's happening on your end. Thank you!

Allan Jones - Thanks for clarifying, and for taking the time to review my question. I've contacted Apple directly (hopefully for the last time) to get this resolved.

Grant Bennet-Alder - Thank you for your detailed explanation of what happens when Apple charges an account. It's been very helpful.

Sorry to all of you for misunderstanding the purpose of this forum. Thank you all for volunteering your time to answer questions on here!

Please understand you are not addressing Apple here. We are all end users like you volunteering with tech issues, not business matters. If this does not resolve itself as has been suggested by other end users, you will need to contact Apple. Posts here are not reviewed by Apple.
