HDMI splittrer with Apple TV 4K

I need to split the HDMI output from my Apple TV 4K, sending video (4K) direct to the TV and the audio to my AVR which does not pass 4k. Does this work? Is there a. brand of splitter that is best?

My avr does not support 4K. I had hoped to split the signal with one feed going direct to the TV and the other going to the avr for 5.1 audio, both via hdmi. It is only a 43” panel, so I will likely stay with 1080p until I buy a 65”. And then get a new avr.

You could send video+audio to the TV through HDMI, then use the HDMI-ARC port to send the audio over HDMI to the AVR, making the TV do the passthrough of audio instead.
or you could use an HDMI Audio Extractor 4K to get audio over Toslink (optical) to the AVR.

Not sure if a splitter would work as you hope it will.
