ColorSync utility does nothing to adjust HDMI color; in Catalina

From reading the guide, it seems that ColorSync has exactly and only one adjustable control that applies to the appearance of my display; that control being for "white point". Everything else seems to be a fancy display of information with no way for the user to actually do anything about or with the information.

I have a Samsung television, and I want to watch a video. My MacBook Pro is hooked up via HDMI. The colors are absolutely horrible, lots of violet, some green, almost no blue at all. The television's "picture" set-up shows options for "sharpness," "color," and "tint," but these are not adjustable when HDMI is plugged in. Presumably, I should be adjusting the HDMI source. But the source is my MacBook, where I control practically nothing. I can create a new "profile", but so what, when I can't adjust the values in the profile? In fact, I can't even adjust a profile that I just created; the ColorSync utility just keeps creating more, useless profiles.

As far as I can tell, ColorSync is not intended to be capable of doing anything useful for my purpose. It is a fancy bit of uselessness.

I am running the new Catalina OS version. I have seen other complaints about ColorSync in relation to Catalina.

Have you made adjustments on the TV from other sources?

Also, depending on the model/year of the Samsung TV,

certain HDMI ports work with computers and are designated

as such. Also, have you verified your cable is good?

Personally, I have had Samsung TVs hooked up to Macs for

years and have never seen that sort of color issues only

"luminance" type issues initially that needed to be ironed

out. Also, I found that using a Samsung TV with my Macs,\

you need to turn off all the "auto" anythings like Dynamic Contrast,

Auto Brightness, etc.

As far as the color profile, hold down the Option key when you

click the "Calibrate..." button. In the window will be an expert

mode check box which basically lets you completely calibrate

a display.
