LG UltraFine 5K Display not compatible with mac os Catalina

I noticed after upgrading to mac os Catalina that my LG UltraFine 5K Display speakers were no longer seen by my Mac Book Pro 2017 (Touch Bar), and thus could not be used as audio output device. I downloaded the LG Screen Manager app from the mac os App Store (per Apple Support instructions on a phone call). Apple Support told me the firmware (software) for the monitor needed to be updated to make all the features work. So I went 'round and 'round with LG phone support because the LG Screen Manager app would not complete the noted LG software update for the monitor. After 30 minutes on the phone with LG, I learn from them that the screen manager app doesn't work with Catalina and LG is "waiting on Apple to release an update to the Screen Manager app so that it will work with Catalina." Who knows when/if this will happen. So now my $1,400 monitor that is less than 18 months old doesn't work as advertised. What's wrong with this picture?
