I'm absolutely hating this new music/movie thing that has replaced iTunes in Catalina.
I would like to transfer a book to my iPad mini 4 to read on vacation but I don't want to transfer my full library..I have no idea how to manually move a book over.
Any thoughts

What might "a book" mean exactly?
If it's something you purchased through Apple's Books, you may simply send that purchase to your iPad.
Otherwise:
Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support
Open the PDF file on your Mac (using Preview). Click the up-arrow in the box at the top:
Choose "AirDrop" and send the document to your iPad that way.
Too funny. Sorry old person. It’s a Clive cussler book turned into a PDF. So need to upload it to my iPad to be able to read it.
