If you are using WiFi you might have better success if you connect your iMac to your router using a cabled connection,

this should provide a more robust connection, do not use the mac while it is downloading.

If that still does not work you can download the standalone update from here,

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2027?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

once downloaded double-click to install.

I would simply try again later.

You can always force quit if necessary or force a shutdown by holding the power button/ TouchID for ~10 sec.

reboot as normal.
