iCloud Status of Song is 'Error'

I turned on iCloud Music Library and after matching, multiple songs now have the status of 'Error'.

The whole matching process took around 12 hours, so reluctant to turn off iCML and start again.

This Error ('This song was not added to your iTunes library because an error occured') affects around 1800 songs in the library of around 14,000. Some of these songs exist in Apple Music, some don't.

And, for example, across a 10 track album, I can have songs with the status 'Matched', 'Apple Music' and 'Error', even though all songs came from the same ripped CD.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Hello Robin Byers,

If I'm understanding you right, you're getting errors for some of your songs when uploading them to iCloud Music Library. I'm happy to help you solve this.

This type of error can occur for a number of reasons, however, it's usually due to there being an issue with the music file itself that is preventing iCloud from uploading it, or iCloud isn't finding a match for the song in Apple Music. When you view your music in iTunes on your Mac, do you see icons a little cloud icon next to them? If so, what does that icon look like? If you're seeing an exclamation mark inside of the cloud, select File > Library > Update Cloud Music Library to resolve this. If that doesn't work, try importing a new copy of the song into your music library. If you're seeing a slash mark through the cloud icon, delete the song, then add it back to your library. This support article will help with identifying what the symbols mean: Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC.

If a song is not available in Apple Music, you might see it greyed out in iTunes and you would not be able to upload it to your iCloud Music Library. Here are reasons why this might happen:

"If a song isn't available in Apple Music

Some songs or albums might be grayed out because they're not currently available in Apple Music. Here are some reasons why:

  • Artists and content providers might release some songs from an album in advance, but not all of them. If you add the entire album to your library, the songs will become available as they're released.
  • Artists and content providers might change or remove music from the Apple Music catalog. Search Apple Music to see if that song is available under a different name or file. If it is, add the song to your library so it's no longer grayed out.
  • The song might not be available in your country or region and will appear in gray text when you search for it in Apple Music.
  • If an explicit song is grayed out, you might have restrictions turned on for your device. You can use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or Screen Time on your Mac to turn off restrictions. You can also add the clean version from Apple Music to your library."

If your songs are grayed out

If you continue to experience issues with music not uploading, may be able to fix it by turning Sync Library off for all of your devices, then turning it back on again.
