Apple TV 4K streaming Netflix 4K content in poor quality

Hi all,

I have experienced that the quality of the Netflix 4K content is worse when accessed through my Apple TV 4K compared to when I access the same content on the LG Netflix app on my LG OLED TV.

I can confirm that the Apple TV is streaming in 4K (Dolby Vision) as the TV switches to Dolby Vision-mode when the program starts.

The Apple TV is receiving around 50 Mbit of download data so I assume it should not be a data quantity issues.

Also the Apple TV is set to DNS = Auto.

Any ideas? Or am I just being paranoid?

You are making a common mistake and confusing download speed with coverage. If you have a home that supports lots of wi-fi devices and/or your home is over 1500 sq. feet you may have a coverage issue. The solution is to install a Mesh network. I had a similar issue when I installed my Apple TV 4K. My home is about 2500 sq. feet and I support:

4 Apple TVs
1 iMac
1 Mac Mini
1 MacBook Air
2 iPhones
2 iPads
A Nest thermostat
Alexa
HT Reciever
3 Samsung Smart TVs

My existing network couldn't handle the load and my Apple TV performed poorly. After installing a Mesh network (I chose the Google Mesh) all of my problems went away. I now have coverage throughout the house and my backyard and garage area.

Now I have tried for a few days with ethernet-cable attached directly to the ApplyTV. It gives me around 90 mbit.

Watching Revenant and Beastmaster yesterday on the AppleTV I had to give up and switch to the native Netflix app on my LG tv.

Every 3 minutes resolution scaled down to less than HD. And whenever a contestant in Beastmaster falls into the water (generating a complex image due to reflections in the water) the AppleTV Netflix app struggles and scales down to something like 640x480.

I really do not understand why. And I would really like to use the AppleTV for Netflix as that is where I have the rest of my streaming channels.
