LG's Slim Portable DVD Writer (AP70) is not connecting / does not show up on my desktop or as a

connected disc under "Computer" when plugged in - it worked fine when I first bought it, but now, after

a long period sitting on a shelf, it only makes a small noise when I plug it in to a usb port on my

Macbook Pro running Mac OS 10.11.6 - any advice on how to get it connected / working would be

appreciated . . .
