text is overlapping on macbook pro 2019

I go to certain pages and the text overlaps. I have gone to System Preferences>Display and chosen a smaller display, which I cannot read. I still have the problem. I can use the Firefox browser with absolutely no problem. Using MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) and Catalina 10.15.2. I would prefer to use Safari, but will have to use another browser unless I get this solved quickly.

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

Thanks, I don't have Fontbook app so that isn't it. Maybe it's certain websites. Thank you anyway.

Only you would be able to determine that. If you have one particular problem website, post the link here—and we can test independent of your machine.

Applications/Font Book.app

is the default built-in font manger on your Mac.

To trouble shoot further you can:

  Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache,  etc.  Login and test. Reboot and test will take a little longer as caches get rebuilt.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Okay. I did the Safe Boot. Then I did the guest user and went to the same page. Perfect no problems. I logged out of guest user and back into my account. Then the same website with the same results-overlap. I changed text size with same results. I can give you the link https://drugpricing.humana.com..... I don't know if you can use without logging in. I'm totally baffled.

I really appreciate the help.

Well, as you suggest above—you can always use an alternative browser.

If you are determined I suspect we can sort through it. I dropped the code down <humana.com/logon/> to have a look see, (can not get to the sub domain <drugpricing.humana.com>,)

as you mentioned, I can't get past the log-in, but I see a lot of dated (ie old) Javascript— so I might suspect Safari has javasript turned off(?) see below. May be not an issue once you get past the log-in(?) I can only speculate here.

To be prudent, first I would:

Safari>Preferences>Extensions You can try turning off all extension to test

Have a look:

Safari>Preferences>Security> Enable Javascript

It maybe in Safari>Preferences>Websites you will have to grant some added privilege (?)

Change Websites preferences in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

If in Safari menu bar you have Safari>Develop>User Agent> verify set to Default

and test. You can try making some change here as another test.

It is a little sparse here your discription of the problem. Safari only?

command 0 (zero) will return a browser window back to default— is that the issue(?)

Quitting Safari and relaunching the app holding the shift key, will open a fresh Safari window.

Still have the same problem. No matter the Display size chosen it overlaps.

Sorry if I didn't give enough detail.

You can see a few things to try:

I really appreciate all your help on this. Have tried all these except the develop, which I do not have, with no change. My bar is File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Window, Help. JavaScript is enabled. At this point I'm leaning toward the side of using another browser for this site. I have realized that is an overlay of a close button, which doesn't work. It's some type of fluke.

I really appreciate all of your help on this. Let's consider this case closed. Thank you.

choose Safari > Preferences, click Advanced, then select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.”
