iMac external Apple superdrive not working

I Read the posts on fixing the problem and have reset the SMC 3 times, Reset the NVRAM and the drive still does not work. It makes a noise on inserting the USB cord and when a DVD is inserted into the drive. It will not load the drive. I was able to use the drive on my wife's new MacBook so I know the drive works. There is just a change in my iMac that is an issue. Next steps?

On advice I checked the sidebar and DVDs was checked.

What solved the issue was to plug the superdrive into the USB and reboot the computer. Following this the DVDs could be inserted and playing DVDs as well as copying files to my computer worked. In rechecking Apple instructions it says to do this if working with microsoft windows, but it was apparently necessary with macOS Catalina10.15.2
