Verizon says the phone has an "Apple carrier lock" on it

I am trying to switch my Xr from Verizon to Spectrum. Verizon says they have unlocked the phone so that it can be switched but that the phone has an "Apple carrier lock" on it. This seems to be preventing the phone from being switched to Spectrum. Has anyone experienced this problem and found a successful solution?

There is no such thing as an "Apple Carrier Lock".

Whoever told you that didn't know what they were talking about.

Did you follow the procedure here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201328

If you did and it's still giving you an invalid SIM message, call AppleCare and give them the serial number. They can tell you if it's actually unlocked.

If it's not, you'll have to work with Verizon to get the issue resolved.

I was finally able to move my phone to Spectrum. Apple told me there was no carrier lock on my phone and that such a thing did not exist. However, the phone continued to show as not being unlocked when I tried to activate my phone my self and when Spectrum looked at it on their system. I ordered a SIM card from Spectrum, loaded it in my Xr and called Spectrum support. They were able to activate it on their system but I do not know what steps they actually took to make it work. Hopefully, similar steps will work for your.

Thank you for your responses. Verizon told me they saw an Apple carrier lock on my phone which had not been placed by them and they had unlocked the phone as much as they could. They believe the problem must be this carrier lock put on by Apple that restricts the phone to one carrier. I have a call in to Apple but they are not working today and will call tomorrow. I was hoping some one had already dealt with this issue so I could have confidence that it would be handled to my satisfaction.
