encrypted disk will slow my processor or not ?

When buying a new macbookpro during the initial setting stage, i've been asked if i want my disk to be encrypted or not.

Question; is an encrypted disk will slow in a way or another my speed please ?

That information is really OLD. You should question the expertise and timeliness of whoever told you that information.


MacOS does its disk encryption/decryption "on-the-fly", and there is no measurable slowdown.


Now if you want to convert an entire disk to/from encrypted, that process takes from all afternoon to a few days.


If your encrypted disk Fails, there will be no survivors -- you MUST have a backup to use Full Disk Encryption! Apple provides the backup software, Time Machine, for free. All you need to do is tell it what external drive to store onto, and "it just does it" automatically, at low priority, in the background, without interrupting your important work.

yes, BUT: it takes only a moment to choose which way you want, but all afternoon to finish the conversion from one to the other.


It also requires some temporary extra space on the drive. Your Mac will operate correctly as it converts, but there may be times (when you go after files that are in the midst of conversion) that you will see momentary slowness.
