iPhone 11 Pro Car Play Issue

I recently upgraded to the 11 Pro (13.3 installed) and seem to have lost the function of Siri reading text messages out loud when using Car Play. My iPhone 7 had no issues doing this and was also running iOS 13.

When a message is received, I click on it on the infotainment unit in my car (2019 Honda Accord). Siri appears on the screen and the squiggly line moves appearing as it is trying to read the message. After about a second or two it does not read anything out loud and simply gives me the options to reply, repeat, or cancel.

Has anyone found a fix for this? Without the message read function Car Play is essentially useless to me.

Just a heads up. I got a “bandaid” fix for this. The exact steps I took:

I went to Settings -> Accessibility-> VoiceOver then I toggled this on and off. (I don’t know if this step is necessary but I’m giving you a run down of what exactly I did to get it to work)

then....

I went to Settings -> Siri and Search -> Siri Voice -> Changed Siri’s voice to Australian female Siri. It has to download

it works with Australian Siri. I wonder if the American voice didn’t download or some glitch occurred while downloading. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have tried to switch back to American(female) Siri, and It did not work. Just tested it with British Female and it works.

Australian female voice worked this morning. Thank you for finding this work around. It's actually pretty funny to listen to the Australian accent. Maybe one day I will try the American voice again. Who knows?

I wonder what the underlying cause of the American voice not working is though.

Yes I turned VoiceOver off. I haven’t tried different voices or tried switching back to American Siri (female) which I may try later.

You use CarPlay only for reading messages? When you just connect to Bluetooth? If your car supports that? And then see if Siri can read your messages.

Also, did you try removing all entries of iPhones from your car, remove the connection from your iPhone and try setting it up as new? What kind of car?

Bumping this. I've toggled all kinds of settings - announce messages w/ Siri, allow previews. Even swapped lightning cables. I've also disconnected there phone entirely from carplay and reconnected it. Nothing has fixed this. I'm out of ideas. Anyone?

I use carplay for messages and Spotify.

Today I disabled my phone from the car and re-enabled it. Still nothing.

I attempted to have Siri read messages via Bluetooth and nothing there either.

I'm wondering if this is related to the announce messages feature. I turned this on and was using airpods and Siri wouldn't read the messages in this instance either. All I hear is a chime and then back to my music.

The car is a 2019 Honda Accord. I had zero issues with my iPhone 7 in the same car.

I have the exact same problem. I had an iPhone X and moved to the 11 Pro Max. Now Siri can’t read my messages in the car or over AirPods. I’ve “forgotten” the car as well and re enabled the vehicle. I’m in a 2019 Chevy Silverado

I'm sorry to hear you're having the same issue. Though I'm glad it's not just me. I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem or anything about it on the internet. Maybe this is a more widespread issue we can shed some light on.

That is great news! I'm guessing you left the VoiceOver setting turned off? I need to be on wifi to download the Australian Siri voice so I will do that tonight. No wifi at work unfortunately.

Did you try any other voices? I might try to American Male voice to see if that works as well.
