Do you mean a Home Theater Receiver, if so yes assuming the receiver has HDMI inputs and outputs an HDMI video signal to your TV, of course the audio would be played using the speakers connected to the receiver. I have an ONKYO receiver that does just that, the model I use is the TX-NR686, however all the major receiver manufacturers make similar products.
