New Apple tv

Received a new Apple TV for Christmas. Our old Apple TV had an optical audio receptacle which we used to connect to a receiver separate from the tv monitor. This allowed for a four speaker surround sound experience. The new Apple TV does not have a spot for this connection. What do I need to do to make this work?

If the receiver has HDMI:

You can connect the Apple TV to an AV receiver via HDMI (video passthrough), then connect the AV receiver to the TV via HDMI.

or

You can connect the Apple TV to the TV via HDMI (audio passthrough), then connect the TV to the audio receiver via HDMI-ARC.

If the receiver doesn’t have HDMI:

You can connect the Apple TV to the TV via HDMI (audio passthrough), then connect the TV to the audio receiver via optical.

or

You can connect the Apple TV to an HDMI Audio Extractor, then connect HDMI Audio Extractor to the TV via HDMI, and connect HDMI Audio Extractor to the receiver via optical.
