iPad charges very slowly, is this normal?

I got my first iPad (7th generation) for Christmas. I find it to charge extremely slowly, and takes upwards of 5-6 hours to fully charge from below 10%. I charge the iPad on a wall outlet using the cord and adapter it came with. Since this is my first iPad, I am unable to reference the charging time to know whether or not it is unusually long. However, when compared to my other Apple products, it seems to be quite unusual.

iPad, iOS 13

If your new 7th gen iPad came with only the 10W power/charging adapter, 5-6 hours to charge is normal.

You maybe able to get it to charge between 4-5 hours IF you turn/toggle OFF both WiFi AND Bluetooth while charging and the iPad is NOT in use for that time.

If you purchase the Apple12W power/charging block, with WiFi and Bluetooth still OFF, you maybe able to get charging times down to around 3-4 hours, or so.

But, your current charging time with the included Apple power/charging block is normal charge time.

Assuming you are using the stock charger that came with your iPad, the charging behaviour that you describe sounds about normal.

If you purchase a higher wattage Apple charger, that supports Power Delivery (PD) such as the Apple 18W charger, your iPad will charge faster at its maximum rate. Your iPad can safely use higher wattage chargers, but will not charge any faster than that achieved with the 18W charger.

I hope you find this helpful in setting your mind at rest.

I have found with my own 2015/2026, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro, about 3 years, ago, or so, that my iPad Pro charges MUCH faster with WiFi and Bluetooth turned/toggled OFF while charging and NOT in use.

Typically from 10-15% to 100% takes between 3 to 3-1/2 hours, or so.

This is so much faster than when I used to leave both WiFi and Bluetooth active all the time, when I was charging my iPads.

Try this, if you do not already charge with these wireless signal receivers toggled OFF!

You'll find your iPad will charge up faster.
