How to fix the issue ? I was planning on upgrading very soon and do not want to risk the trade in value

You can't fix this. It will require replacing the screen on your iPhone X. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for a screen replacement. If you don't have AppleCare, the cost will be $279. If you have a valid AppleCare plan, it will cost $99. You might want to just see what they'll give you in trade as opposed to paying a lot of money for a new screen. The maximum Apple will offer in trade for an iPhone X is $400.
