iTunes 12.8.2 update stops without downloading

I've tried to update iTunes to 12.8.2 as needed, but every time the download stops just seconds into the start. Any suggestions as to why the download isn't working?

Hi there, j kfrommorgantown.

I see that you're having problems downloading an update for iTunes on your Mac. It stops just a few seconds after it begins, and I'm glad to help with this.

Back up your Mac with Time Machine -- If you haven't already and you're able to do so, please back up your Mac to keep your information safe.

Download iTunes 12.8.2 for Mac -- Use this link to download iTune 12.8.2 for Mac. Make sure your Mac meets the system requirements. You'll find that near the bottom of this page.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac -- If the download still stops, restart your Mac in safe mode and see if you're able to update from there. If you're able while in safe mode, reboot normally once the process is complete.

How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery -- If you still can't update your Mac, restart it in macOS Recovery and see if you're able to update. Use the Option-Command-R to upgrade to the latest macOS that's compatible with your computer.

Let me know how that goes, and take care!

Thanks! Apparently this is an issue for a lot of folks that updated to an iPhone 11. iTunes won't recognize the phone without the 12.8.2 update.

Your outline resolved the issue for me. It "appeared" to lock up again at one point when the countdown in the download / install process stopped at 4 seconds ... for about 6 minutes. But I just let it ride for a while and it seemed to resolve itself. It then asked for another download & install for the new iPhone 11 itself. After an addition download and restart, it began working as expected.

I still find it odd that the method for installing, personally owned music and personal photo albums is being done through a music player. (both iPhone and iPad) Oh well...

Thanks for the clarification.

JK
