There was an error in Apple ID Preferences

'There was an error in Apple ID Preferences' and 'Update Apple ID Settings - Some account services will not be available until you sign in again' seem to be perennial problems that no obvious answer has been posted to. It's happening on my 13"MBP.

I also can't Sign Out, as that is greyed out and not able to be selected. I've done the re-boots, plists and a bunch of stuff which clearly does;t work. Anyone had any joy in sorting this out????

Thanks Jeremy. I mostly got it sorted the other day. Everything was on the latest system. I re-did the sign out, sign in, reboot routine and got the error message to disappear.

However, the grey 'Sign Out' is still there. I spoke to Apple Customer care, who were great to deal with, and we couldn't resolve this. We think it's to do with it being my daughters MBP on a Family Sharing set up. Not being able to sign out at this stage isn't critical, getting rid of the message was so we left it at that.

Hi seavalley,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are seeing an alert in Apple ID Preferences on your Mac. I'd like to share guidance to help with this.

You did great steps already in an attempt to get this solved. It's suggested to make sure you are using the latest macOS version compatible to your MacBook Pro: How to update the software on your Mac - Apple Support. If you are using the latest macOS version, and the same issue remains, I would recommend connecting with Apple Support directly, for further investigation: Contact - Official Apple Support.

Best regards.
