iPhone lightning to 3.5 adaptor does not work for phone calls

So I usually plug in my 3.5mm headset in for voice calls so I can type at the same time. Now I’ve got an XR rather than an SE I use the adaptor to plug in the same headset. They work to listen to music or take audio notes so I know nothing is broken, but when I start an audio call or face time audio call, the device ignores they are plugged in and reverts to the phone audio. It switches back to working as soon as the call ends.

Is apple aware of this problem?

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Hi Opticon12000,

It seems like you're having trouble with audio and I want to help.

If you go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing, do you have Automatic set?

Are you able to manually switch the call to your headphones, or is it as thought he headphones are not detected?

Let me know what happens and I'll try to help.
