I need to replace my MacBookPro Retina 13 inch early 2015 2.7 GHz intel core i5 laptop with something comparable. The newer models have lower GHz. What is that and what does it do? Which new model is comparable? Thanks!

Don't worry too much about the clock speed. Newer versions of the processors can be as fast or faster even with lower clock speeds. Some have higher Turbo Boost speeds as well as higher average performance per clock cycle.
My wife's 2019 MBA with a 1.6 GHz 8th gen Core i5 is equivalent in performance to my mid-2012 MBP with a 2.5 GHz 3rd gen Core i5.
