IOS 13.3 Whatsapp push notification not working

Wife's iPhone 7 Plus also has this issue. My iPhone XS luckily doesn't.

Her WhatsApp and WeChat (yep, the problem is with iOS and not developers) do not give out notifications nor load messages unless she opens the app. All settings are ON, background app refresh is ON, iOS version is latest, restarted the phone multiple times. The cellular or WiFi choices didn't make any difference, the notifs still didn't go through.

No idea what's wrong. She's now using iMessage as the main platform (which works for her, but not for some here) but since so many of her work colleagues use Android, this is becoming a serious issue affecting her work. We thought it was because her phone is old (iPhone 7 Plus), but reading this clarified that it is happening to the X series too.

Apple please investigate.

Yeah man. That's exactly what I did between my fiancè's XR and my 11PM. You should try video calling or calling with screen locked :) let's see the result(s) if you still receive the call in real time :)

This is very frustrating. I just reset all settings and still didn't work. I don't want to go through the trouble of erasing all data then restoring from backup when the problem is in the software.

Apple, please take note and help. We can confirm this is not on the dev of the apps, as the problem persists on different apps (in my case WhatsApp and WeChat both notifications did not go through).

Including viber and other chat apps have notification problems. This only occurs when using cellular data.

You must have cellular data enabled for push notifications to work. They do not use Wi-Fi. Might that be the problem?

i am having the same problems on my iPhone X and the problems only surfaced after updating to iOS 13.3.1.

I am not receiving push notifications from both telegram and WhatsApp. Only when I open the app, will the new messages then load and come in. It seems like the apps are only retrieving the messages from the servers when it’s open and not in the background. All my settings are correct. I reset all my settings and then did a hard reset yesterday when the problem surfaced..which worked for about 5 hours before the notification problem came up again and I stopped receiving them.

does anyone know what’s wrong? Or how to fix this permanently?

I am having the same issue with iOS 13.3.1 on a 6S. Not receiving any notifications or banners from any app. This is urgent. I can’t have every app on my phone open so I can look at them to see if any messages come through. I love overseas and am traveling in the US for a few weeks. My wife and son are at home. We had a major problem today, and I did not see the messages, because the notifications never came through.

What can we do to fix this??

I have the same issue. No notifications on WhatsApp or Facebook. Messages and notifications don’t show until I open the App. Have reinstalled both and checked all settings as per the guides.

Issue started yesterday and I was wondering what the problem was. This morning I updated to iOS13.4.1 and I am still not receiving notification until I open actual Apps. It is positing a lot of issues for me specifically because we are using WhatsApp as a major form of communication with work colleagues during lockdown. This is resulting in me missing a lot of comms coming in both on iMessage and WhatsApp.

Devs can you prioritise and have this resolved ASAP please.

Well guys, looks like you can’t do anything about it. It has been my problem since I got my 11 pro max. I’ve been using whatsapp for main communication and Yet I have notification problems like you’ve been experiencing. I had a post here since december last year.

Same here. I posted here earlier on as well. I am still not receiving whatsapp notifications.

I remember reading through my own research online on one of the dev forums that Apple quietly changed the way notifications were handled in the newer iOS. But I'm not sure as well as I have still been unable to receive notifications on whatsapp despite updating it constantly.

I wanted to try deleting and downloading the app again as that would completely remove any possible app settings that I am unable to change on the UI. But unfortunately I am also unable to backup my whatsapp to the iCloud despite having enough space and trying all the methods like logging in and out of iCloud, resetting network settings iphone settings all settings. Upload is always eternally stuck at 5%.

Long story short, I don't know how to fix it either and Apple doesnt seem to be doing anything about it. Maybe we just need more people to make noise about this problem before they address it proper...

Upgrading to ios 13.5 is my biggest regret. You know before this pandemic i used to leave my phone at home while accessing my IM messages on my work computer. Imagine when i have gone back to work i wont be getting any messages the whole day(iPhone 7)
