What is Unknown Caller on iPhone?

Afternoon I have a problem the incoming calls on my Phone only shows unknown caller even to the numbers saved on my phone. I’ve tried several suggestions from this platform yet none of them seem to be working. Please assist

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that the Caller ID on your iPhone isn't working as expected and numbers you have saved to contacts are coming through as unknown. I know how important it is to be able to identify who is calling you; I'd like to help. Please try these steps first:


  • Check for a carrier settings update: Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad
  • If this is only affecting a few callers, check to verify that they haven't disabled Caller ID functionality on their device.
  • Verify that your language and region are correct in Settings > General > Language & Region.


If you install a carrier settings update or make any changes in Settings, take some time to test for the behavior again. I'd also suggest verifying that you're using the most recent iOS version on your device: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
