Hello everyone.
Starting a few weeks ago, Notes on my Mac keeps crashing (closing) all the time. It can't stay open more than 10-20 seconds. I am on Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6.

Ok guys, it looks like I have solved this issue after so much research... it looks like that there were some old notes that caused the trouble. I removed a few of the oldest notes, with some images inside as well, and now the app doesn't crash anymore.
Also, the file I mentioned in my latest post above, doesn't grow anymore and it is limited to about 7MB which looks right to me.
Let's cross our fingers and see if this happens again!

OK. This simply means there is a problem between Notes and iCloud. First debugging step.
Next steps are not obvious as the problem may has different causes.
You may try:
Keep us posted of the results,

If you're synching Notes with iCloud, deactivate it. Is the problem persist?
You may reactivate Notes synching with iCloud after.

OK. So far, it looks like the problem is with the synchronization with iCloud.
Do you have other devices (iPhone, Mac...) synching Notes with iCloud? It could be a compatibility issue between Notes apps.
You may also try to disconnect completely from iCloud and reconnect.
Unless someone else has a better idea, I think it is time to call Apple Support.

I saw many posts on the Web from users experiencing problems in similar setups as your. Many solutions are proposed but none seems to work for everyone: Disconnect/connect all devices from iCould, delete some cache files, open the Reminders app...
I cannot recommend one unfortunately.

Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestion, deactivated Notes from iCloud settings in System Preferences, and it didn't crash anymore... but as soon as it put that option back, it crashed again (after about 1-2 minutes).
What's going on? Any more ideas?

Ok, I tried everything you suggested, and notes kept crashing. Even by restarting in Safe mode.

Yes, I use Notes with other devices and computers, all sharing the same iCloud account. I have already tried to disconnect and reconnect to iCloud, but no avail.
My only thought is that the computer where Notes crashes is still using Mojave, whereas on the other computer I use I have Catalina. All other devices such as iPhones and iPads have the latest iOS software. Could that be a problem with Mojave?

UPDATE: I have tried everything possible (disconnecting iCloud, reconnecting iCloud, etc), but no avail. I am beginning to think to upgrade to Catalina, but it is shameful because for this issue I'd lose the ability to use some 32 bit apps... so... I guess I'l wait for a while.
But if anyone else has a solution, please, let me know!

Unfortunately the problem is still there, and today I have discovered that the file “NoteStore.sqlite” located in ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.notes/ keeps growing and growing to reach over 2 GB in size! Something must be wrong there... Could be a cause of the crash? Or a hint for anyone?

Notes app keep crashing
