question on DAC

I'm trying to use my early 2015 MBP to receiver for streaming and playing music.

Tidal, Soundcloud hi-res, and anything hi-res I have on my comp via Itunes (adapting bitperfect)

My question is if I use headphone jack 3.5 audio to RCA inputs on receiver, is my macbook able to perform at high rates like 96/24 or 192? etc? I hear the DAC is that good, but I want to be sure it can transfer it using the headphone jack. (my receiver does not have optical input, so I cannot use toslink mini adapter)

In addition to I am looking at the DACmagic 100 and other $200 range DACs. If I use the toslink mini setup on these will this be better sound then what MAC alone can do? Also, I'm not using headphones, just hifi speakers, so I read the difference cannot be heard if you are not using the external DAC for headphones.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

MacBook, OS X 10.11

Gee, thank you for that straight up answer....that's what I have been trying to find out.

So, just to confirm, if you have a second....

Using the 3.5 audio headphone jack to RCA to the receiver is fine.

but a special note, is under midi - I can still change that to higher marks? 96, 192, 48, etc...I included a screen shot. and thank you!

Meaning - If I play tidal.com or soundcloud plus/go hifi, or play a song I know is recorded in 96 I can change manually there?
